Help Broadmoor Motors #payitlocal and #supportlocalrestaurants

2020 has been a challenging year for many around the nation, in our state and in our greater Grand Rapids communities. While some businesses have seen a surge in demand during the stay at home orders and closures, many have struggled to survive without being able to operate in a business as usual fashion including local restaurants. Wanting to help the fantastic restaurants we know and love that surround our car lots, we devised a plan to not only pay it forward but a way for the communities around us to help us show their support for these great cafes, diners and restaurants with our Broadmoor Motors Pay It Local initiative.

Here’s how it works!

We connected with a variety of restaurants in Caledonia, Middleville, Hastings and Wayland to purchase gift cards for their restaurants and now we’re giving them to YOU for you to use. Simply stop into any of our car lot locations during normal business hours and ask for a Pay It Local gift card. That’s it! Absolutely no purchase necessary or even a test drive to receive one, we just want YOU to use the gift card for takeout now or when dine-in is available again :)

When you pick up your gift card at one of our lots, we would love it if you would check in on social media to help spread the word and encourage other businesses who can Pay It Local to do so by adding the hashtags… #PayItLocal #onetakeoutatatime.

Next, we invite you to use your gift card to order a takeout meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner to the local restaurant you’ve been given a gift card for. If you are able to spend more than the allotted gift card amount, we know they would appreciate it but if you aren’t able to, feel free to just use the allotted amount! Without exception, gratuity is always appreciated by their hard-working staff who we know have also been deeply affected by the restaurant closures that have kept them shuttered for a third of this year.

In addition, we invite you to help us spread the word by sharing our Facebook posts about our Pay It Local movement! Our goal is to flood these businesses who have been stressed and strained with as much love and support from the people and businesses who live, work and worship in the area because there’s power in local folks helping other local folks ♥ And if we can inspire other businesses who are in a position to do the same, we would absolutely love it.

Let’s open the floodgates of support to the restaurants we know and love this December. In a year full of so many frustrations and losses, we know together we can help bring some joy into the lives and businesses of those who need us right now. So help us pay it forward by stopping by anytime during our normal business hours at any of our four locations in Caledonia, Wayland, Middleville and Hastings to grab a corresponding gift card for a restaurant in that area to use for a takeout order today or dine in experience when they are once again able to have you eat inside.

Lastly, if you or your business would like to join the Pay It Local movement, we invite you to do so! Generosity has no ownership and we would love for other area businesses, who feel moved to do the same, buy gift cards to show support of other local businesses and pay it forward in their communities. If you have any questions on how to get started or how to get involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us on social media or by email at

Grand Rapids, Michigan has well established itself as a city deserving of the name Beer City, USA.  Even before the title was dubbed to Grand Rapids two consecutive years in a row, its residents had a passion for all things brewing related.  Not only were they interested in partaking in the impressive craft beer West Michigan has to offer but in learning about the process behind the bottle.   As the number of beer enthusiasts who wish to visit the different area breweries has grown, so too has the demand for tours.  Below, we’ll discuss options differing from Group Tours to Shuttle Services in the West Michigan area.

Group Tours of Breweries

You can take advantage of a safe, designated driver with the added plus of receiving a guided tour of local breweries by registering for a tour with one of the following companies.

artprize 2

September in Grand Rapids has become synonymous with ArtPrize but it hasn’t always been that way.  Launched in 2009 by Rick Devos, it was designed to be a “social experiment” and the biggest art prize giveaway based solely on the public’s opinion.  Such a large cash prize awarded from popular vote of the community instead of by committees and curators input was completely unheard of in the art scene, and word that any artist could enter and possible win spread fast.

Seven years later, ArtPrize has grown steadily in its numbers of participants, with people coming from all over the world to be a part as either an artist or visitor in downtown Grand Rapids.  This year, 162 sites will host over 1,500 pieces of art throughout the city, including indoor and outdoor venues in seven different areas.  With so much to see, it can be hard to know where to start planning your visit, how to get your vote counted and even the different ways to cast your vote for your favorite piece.  Consider this your quick reference to the most out of ArtPrize.

Seven different areas of Grand Rapids are designated as ArtPrize District and where you’ll find all art venues (click on each name to view the locations within each district).  They include…

City Center

Monroe North/Belknap

Meijer Gardens

SiTE:LAB/The Rumsey Street Project

Voting is a different matter entirely and if you’re not careful, you’ll end up missing the chance to cast your ballot for your favorites.  The First Round of Voting occurs from September 23 – October 3, with the Second Round of Voting from October 4 – October 8.  In order to vote, you’ll need to register either through the Mobile App, online or in person at any of these Voting Sites:

An important thing to remember, you must be in one of the Artprize Districts in Grand Rapids to cast your ballot!  So don’t wait until later or you might just miss out.

Artprize certainly brings an excitement and a flurry of visitors to West Michigan in the three weeks it takes place.  To make the most out of it, we suggest having a general plan before making the trek downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan.  For those out of town visitors, we highly recommend booking your hotel and car rental well in advance to September in order to guarantee you’ll get the room accommodations and rental car you prefer.  Broadmoor Motors carries a variety of vehicles for all your rental needs, including Economy to Full Size, Minivan, SUV and 12 Passenger Vans for your next trip to Grand Rapids.  Give us a call at either our Caledonia Location 616.698.9595 or Hastings Location 269.320.6304 to reserve your next car rental and enjoy ArtPrize!  We’re here for all your Car Rental, Sales and Service needs.

Hannah (pictured middle) stopping by Broadmoor Motors with her Dad, Burt and little sister, Rylee.

At Broadmoor Motors, we are strong believers that being a part of your community means supporting local people, causes and schools.  We’re proud to be sponsors of many different causes and people who are making a difference right where they live.  One of those people is a young girl named Hannah Paddock.  As a member of the Hudsonville Fair Southsiders 4-H Club she’s participating in her 3rd year of the Hudsonville Community Fair where she’ll be showing 2 crossbreed pigs, Wilbur and Sparty.

Hannah bathing Sparty.

While participating with the 4-H Club, Hannah has learned how to care for her 2 pigs and take the responsibilities very seriously.  Feeding them twice a day, giving them baths three times a week and walking them are just some of them.  She also works on training them on where to go and teaching them what to do so they’re in tip top Fair shape.

Hannah with Sparty.

Hannah recently stopped by our Broadmoor Motors Caledonia location to tell us about her pig project and her goal to raise enough money to buy back her pigs at auction.  After she does, she’ll be able to donate the meat to Love Inc., as part of their F.A.R.M. Ministry (Feeding and Reaching Many).  This organization gives food to local food pantries and churches in the community, and combined with other fair and producer donations, was able to distribute over 18,000 pounds of meat to area food pantries and shelters in 2014!

Buyers Ribbon Hannah hopes to take again.

After speaking with her about her pigs and seeing how passionate she was in her mission to donate them to Love Inc, we knew we wanted to help sponsor her and we invite you to help her in her quest to raise enough money to buy them back as well.  The Hudsonville Fair runs from August 24th-29th with the auction taking place on August 27th.  If you would like to donate, please contact Burt Paddock at 616.260.2553, email or mail a check (made out to Burt) to 4740 Van Buren St. Hudsonville, MI 49426.

The Uccello’s Golf Outing is held annually and proceeds go to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation. Broadmoor Motors was a happy to sponsor this great event again as the Hole In One Sponsor where golfers had the opportunity to win a year lease on a Chrysler 300.

Broadmoor Motors will be the Hole in One Sponsor at the 25th Annual Holland Home Golf Outing, which will be held Monday, June 2 at Watermark Country Club in Cascade.  Proceeds go to benifit the Holland Home Resident Assistance Fund, ensure that Holland Home will be able to continue to serve their residents needs in all levels of care.
